Lettuce Growing
Lettuce is crop which is best grown in moderate weathers. However, nowadays new species of lettuce, which are somewhat weather resistant, can be grown throughout the year. There are several different kinds of lettuces such as iceberg, romaine, butter head etc. They occur in different colours, shapes and textures.
Growing lettuce is not an easy task. It requires attention and care. It grows quite quickly. If you want to have lettuce all year long, plant it in successions because in this way you will be having lettuce through out the year at regular time intervals. Try to prevent the leaves of the lettuce from getting wet as it can be harmful. It should be grown in damp soil as the roots of lettuce are shallow so it needs a regular supply of water but not in excessive.
In order to have large lettuce leaves, sow the seeds at a greater distance from each other. On the other hand, if you want to have small mixes, you need to plat them closely and must cut them while they are not fully grown.
Two factors are very important for the germination of lettuce that is light and moisture. You should sow the lettuce seeds in sun and must prevent it from excessive heat. In fact, you should plant it in partially shaded areas or in the shade of large trees. As far as the moisture factor is concerned, it is advisable to ensure water supply in such a way that roots should get water but on the other hand drainage also occurs.
