Grow Lettuce

Lettuce is a crop which grows in cool weather conditions. It is best grown in early spring in the northern regions while in the southern regions it grows in winter and spring season. It is suggested to plant the lettuce seeds in the same year in which they are packaged. There are several varieties of lettuce seeds which can be easily obtained from commercial seed companies.

It is recommended to sow the lettuce seeds about half an inch deep in the soil. Make sure that the soil must contain moisture in it. Also ensure an adequate supply of water to the weeded lettuce. In order to get a continuous lettuce throughout the year, plant the seeds at regular intervals. 

It is easy to grow lettuce but difficult to keep it pest free. It requires a constant struggle and care to make your lettuce safe from pests. Snails and slugs are the worst enemies of lettuce. The tasty lettuce leaves is their favourite food. To keep the slugs away from your lettuce, it is recommended to use slug killer as it helps breaking down into nitrogen when attacked by snails and slugs.

Another way to keep your lettuce pest free is to make use of earth box system. In this system, boxes are installed having a water reservoir and the whole weeded area is covered with black plastic. They do not demand any sort of maintenance. You can get continuous lettuce for the whole season by making use of hair cutting technique.
